Bryce James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, has received an offer to play college basketball for Ohio State University, his father’s home state. The 16-year-old expressed his gratitude in a social media post, stating that he feels “blessed” to have this opportunity in NCAA Division I men’s basketball. He added “#GoBuckeyes” in reference to the team’s nickname, which reached the Final Four in 2012.
This announcement follows Bryce’s unofficial visit to Ohio State’s Columbus campus, where he witnessed the school’s victory over Maryland during a college football game. ESPN reported the visit, which also included Dezhon Hall, a four-star recruit in the class of 2026 who posted clips of the two players in Buckeyes uniforms.
It should be noted that last year, Bryce also received an offer from Duquesne University. The Duquesne Dukes have strong connections to LeBron, including their head coach Keith Dambrot, who previously coached LeBron in high school. Additionally, Dru Joyce III, the Dukes’ associate head coach, was LeBron’s teammate at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
Bryce’s visit to Ohio State follows in the footsteps of his brother Bronny James, who previously visited the university. Bronny went on to sign with the University of Southern California. However, he recently suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice due to a congenital heart defect. LeBron James provided an update on his son’s health, stating that he’s “doing extremely well” and undergoing rehab to return to the court with his USC teammates.
