Incredible Performance by Brooks Koepka at LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah
Brooks Koepka displayed an outstanding performance on Saturday, shooting a flawless 64 to secure a three-stroke lead heading into the final round of the LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah tournament in Saudi Arabia. With a series of remarkable shots, the defending champion recorded four consecutive birdies on holes No. 3 to 6, adding to his impressive eight birdies for the round in the prestigious $25 million event held at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.
Koepka currently stands at an impressive 12-under, leading the pack ahead of Spain’s Sergio Garcia, who followed Friday’s 68 with an exceptional 63, and Charles Howell III, who also had an impressive round of 64.
Not to be outdone, Scott Vincent of Zimbabwe delivered a remarkable score of 62, fueled by seven birdies and an eagle, placing him in a tie for fourth with Bryson DeChambeau, both four strokes behind Koepka at 8 under.
First-round leader Marc Leishman of Australia, who took the lead on Friday with a solid 65, experienced a setback with a 5-over par 70, falling into a tie for 21st at 3-under par.
Reflecting on his performance, Garcia mentioned that the weather and course conditions were more favorable on Saturday compared to the previous day.
“It was a really nice round, obviously,” he said. “The course conditions were a little bit more favorable than yesterday. Yesterday was much windier. It was a lot trickier. A couple of tougher pins yesterday, I guess.”
Garcia attributed his strong finish to consecutive birdies on the final two holes, highlighting their significance for his round.
“I finished with four birdies on my last five,” he said. “Obviously there’s moments here and there, but I also made a couple really good up-and-downs on 11 and 12 to keep my round going, and then thanks to that, I birdied 13 and 14.
“I think that I played nicely. I got a lot out of my round, and I’m very happy with that.”
In the team competition, Garcia’s Fireballs and Koepka’s Smash are tied for second place at 19 under, trailing DeChambeau’s Crushers by three strokes.
