KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In a desperate search for good news, the struggling Denver Broncos will welcome back tight end Greg Dulcich on Thursday night as they face the formidable Kansas City Chiefs.
Dulcich, who has been sidelined since Week 1 due to a hamstring injury suffered in the Broncos’ loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, has been activated from the injured reserve and will be available to contribute against the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium.
The Broncos (1-4) had recently announced Dulcich’s return from injured reserve and he participated in team practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. The team created a roster spot by releasing wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey.
During Tuesday’s practice, Broncos coach Sean Payton hinted at Dulcich’s potential return to the roster, expressing hope for his swift comeback. Payton praised Dulcich’s work ethic and acknowledged the precautions being taken to prevent any setbacks in his recovery.
Dulcich made a notable impact in the season opener with two receptions for 22 yards. His speed and explosiveness prompted Payton to compare him to versatile offensive weapons like Alvin Kamara, Darren Sproles, and Reggie Bush, who played the “joker” role in Payton’s previous tenure with the New Orleans Saints.
The third-round draft pick from 2022 has had previous encounters with hamstring issues but has demonstrated his potential in the Broncos’ offensive scheme. In the previous season, Dulcich showcased his skills with 33 catches for 411 yards and two touchdowns across ten games.
