Breanna Stewart’s presence at the Barclays Center is a force to be reckoned with, and her daughter, Ruby Mae Stewart-Xargay, has quickly caught on to her mother’s business.
Ruby Mae Stewart-Xargay was born in 2021, missing out on witnessing her mother’s first MVP title in 2018 with the Seattle Storm. However, she now has the privilege of watching Stewart and the New York Liberty compete on the grandest stage of the WNBA Finals.
During an interview with ESPN’s Terrika Foster-Brasby, when asked if Ruby truly comprehends her mother’s profession, Stewart shared an adorable response. “Ruby believes that mommy represents the WNBA logo, the Puma logo, and the Barclays Center,” revealed the two-time MVP. “Anything she sees resembling those symbols, she thinks of me. While she grasps the fact that I play basketball, she hasn’t quite grasped the full scope of it yet. However, it’s quite amusing when she approaches people and points at the Puma logo, saying ‘Mommy’.”
In September 2022, Stewart unveiled her first signature shoe, the Stewie 1, after signing with Puma. However, for her next shoe, Stewart wanted to pay tribute to someone incredibly important to her: her daughter. Puma honored Ruby with a red colorway of the Stewie 2, aptly named “Ruby.”
This Wednesday, Ruby will witness her mother in action during Game 2 of the WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces (9 p.m. ET, ESPN). The New York Liberty aims to level the series at 1-1.
