Brad Sham, Voice of the Cowboys, Faces Medical Scare on Route to Thursday’s Game

The radio voice of the Cowboys, Brad Sham, suffered a medical scare on his way to Thursday’s game against the Seahawks and missed the contest in Arlington.

Kyle Youmans took over for Sham as play-by-play man alongside color analyst Babe Laufenberg.

“I fell ill en route to the game,” Sham said via text. “I was advised to get it checked out. Testing and resting. Looking forward to next week.”

Sham, who has missed two games in observance of a Jewish holiday, said this is only the second game he’s missed due to illness.

“Only other game I missed was vs. Minnesota for food poisoning in ‘83. Don’t recommend either,” he said.

“The Cowboys have been phenomenal in their support and I appreciate that and all the good wishes from folks.”

Sham, 74, has been with the Cowboys since 1976 and in 2018 had the home radio booth named in his honor: The Brad Sham Home Radio Booth at AT&T Stadium.

In the offseason, Sham had some health issues and dealt with the death of his ex-wife Peggy.

“The sudden death of my ex-wife Peggy and being there to help my son through that has been compounded by some health issues I’ve been working on since January,” Sham said over the summer. “Nothing that will keep me from doing the job for which I have such passion, or from living my life.

“The real truth is that millions of people deal with much, much worse every day. I’m very much looking forward to many more years with my family and the friends who mean so much to me and to keep telling the stories of the people who make up this franchise.”
