BOSTON (AP) — The world of women’s professional golf is set to host another highly lucrative tournament.
The LPGA Tour and FM Global have revealed plans for a new event at TPC Boston featuring a prize purse of $3.5 million. This makes it the largest purse on the LPGA Tour outside of the major championships and the season-ending tour championship.
The 2024 FM Global Championship will be a 72-hole tournament held in Norton, Massachusetts from August 29th to September 1st. It will feature a field of 144 players.
“Boston is rapidly establishing itself as a vibrant hub for women’s sports,” stated LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan. “We are excited to participate in this incredible movement by bringing the renowned TPC Boston back into the spotlight as it hosts the historic 2024 FM Global Championship. This marks the long-awaited return of the LPGA Tour to New England.”
Boston is also preparing to welcome a new Professional Women’s Hockey League team in 2024, as well as a National Women’s Soccer League team in 2026.
The commissioner expressed gratitude towards FM Global for their commitment to elevating the LPGA and using their collective platform to inspire and empower young girls and women, both on and off the golf course.
FM Global is recognized as one of the world’s leading commercial property insurers.
This partnership between the LPGA Tour and FM Global is set to last for five years, representing FM Global’s first major sports sponsorship. Fenway Sports Management played a crucial role in securing FM Global’s sponsorship as part of a commercial alliance with the LPGA.
