The San Francisco 49ers find themselves in a perplexing situation as they suffer consecutive losses for the first time in exactly one year, putting a pause on their flawless 5-0 start.

Following their 22-17 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium, 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa expressed the humbling nature of playing in the NFL.

“The NFL has a way of bringing you back to reality,” explained Bosa following the game. “Starting 5-0 gives you that confidence, but the NFL has a way of doing that. There are talented players, strategic schemes, and we’re about to face another formidable opponent this week, so we need to prepare ourselves.”

After individually contributing at least 30 points in the previous eight games, the 49ers have now been limited to only 17 points in their last two matchups. This scoring drought marks the first time since October 2021 when they consecutively fell to the Arizona Cardinals (17-10) and the Indianapolis Colts (30-18) that they have failed to surpass 20 points in back-to-back games.

The Minnesota Vikings’ offensive line skillfully neutralized the highly regarded 49ers pass rush, preventing San Francisco’s defense from securing a single sack for the first time since Week 17 of the 2022 season. This concludes their impressive streak of at least one sack in ten consecutive games.

Although Nick Bosa earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2022 with an impressive 18.5 sacks, he has struggled to replicate such numbers this season, currently standing at just 2.5 sacks.

The 49ers’ defense faces another formidable challenge in Week 8, as they prepare to confront the potent Cincinnati Bengals offense at Levi’s Stadium.
