Connecticut Sun’s DeWanna Bonner dominated the game, scoring 17 points and achieving a season-best 15 rebounds, leading her team to a 90-60 victory over the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA playoffs’ opening match on Wednesday night.
The Sun, who secured the No. 3 seed after a 27-13 regular season, is set to host Game 2 of the best-of-three series at their home court in Connecticut on Sunday. Alyssa Thomas contributed 15 points and 10 assists, Rebecca Allen scored 15 points, and Tiffany Hayes added 14 points with four 3-pointers.
Connecticut’s prowess on the court was reflected in their 16 successful 3-pointers out of 30 attempts, as they limited Minnesota to a 35% shooting average. The Sun capitalized on 19 Lynx turnovers, scoring 30 points off them.
Throughout the game, Connecticut maintained a commanding lead, securing a 20-point advantage in the third quarter. Noteworthy performances came from Kayla McBride, who registered 16 points for the Lynx, and Napheesa Collier, with 14 points. Though the Lynx attempted to rally with a 16-6 run in the second quarter and brief lead, the Sun’s defense and a 21-3 run in response tilted the game in Connecticut’s favor.
