According to Vivid Seats, the Blackhawks’ home opener against the Las Vegas Golden Knights last Saturday set a record for the highest average ticket price in five years. The average ticket price for the game was $209, representing a 50% increase compared to the most expensive game during that five-year period. ESPN reported that a December 2019 game against the New York Islanders had an average ticket price of $148 for the Blackhawks.

The arrival of 18-year-old sensation Connor Bedard has had a significant impact on the Blackhawks. Not only have ticket prices skyrocketed, but the team’s television ratings have also reached unprecedented heights. Bedard’s NHL debut against the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he faced off against his idol Sidney Crosby, attracted 1.43 million viewers on ESPN, making it the most-watched regular season NHL game in the network’s history, excluding the Winter Classic. The following game against the Boston Bruins, in which Bedard scored his first official NHL goal, broke TNT’s record for the most-watched regular season NHL game with 917,000 viewers.

Bedard’s presence in the league has not only benefited the Blackhawks but has also influenced the NHL’s marketing strategy. The league has made efforts to better promote their young stars and the game of hockey. This includes a broadcasting deal with ESPN, the creation of specialty shows featuring notable personalities like Wayne Gretzky, and Bedard’s appearances on popular sports news shows like “The Pat McAfee Show,” now streamed by ESPN.

It’s clear that Bedard’s remarkable performance in his rookie season has made him impossible to ignore. With two goals and two assists to his name, as well as an average ice time of 20:18 per game, fans have every reason to tune in and attend Blackhawks games. Don’t miss out on the Bedard phenomenon. Jump on the bandwagon now.
