Report: Giants appear ready to spend big on multiple star free agents originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The San Francisco Giants are gearing up for a significant offseason as they aim to field a more competitive team for the 2024 MLB season.
After two disappointing seasons, the Giants are heading into perhaps one of the biggest offseasons in franchise history. They have already been linked to several top free agents, including two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.
Former MLB general manager and columnist for The Athletic, Jim Bowden, reported in his latest story that agents have indicated the Giants are ready to make substantial investments in multiple star-level players this winter.
“I have been told by multiple agents that the Giants are ‘all-in’ on this year’s free-agent market and appear prepared to spend significant dollars on multiple star-level players,” Bowden wrote. “I also wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to trade for Soto, but it’s very unlikely the Padres would trade him within the same division.”
San Francisco has previously been aggressive in the free-agent and trade markets in search of a superstar player, with no success. However, the pressure is on for president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and the organization to secure big-name talent this offseason, which could lead to a more aggressive pursuit.
As the MLB Winter Meetings are set to begin on Dec. 4 in Nashville, Tenn., Giants fans may finally get some clarity on which star players the team will land this offseason.
