The Golden State Warriors had an intense early-season game against the Sacramento Kings, with Stephen Curry leading the charge.
It was Oct. 27, and the fans at Golden 1 Center witnessed an exciting game where the Kings’ strong fourth-quarter run cut the Warriors’ lead to a mere five points with just 45 seconds remaining.
In a bold move, Curry stepped out to the top of the 3-point line and sealed the deal with an impressive shot which secured a 122-114 win for the Warriors.
Curry’s outstanding 41-point performance set the stage for a remarkable start to the season, even for the high standards of Steph Curry.
He has been averaging 30.9 points on an impressive 55.1% shooting from the field, 46.5% from 3, and 94.4% from the free throw line, making him the only player in NBA history to achieve such statistics at age 35 or older for the first eight games of a season.
This is the third time Curry has achieved these excellent shooting splits in the first eight games, a feat no other NBA player has accomplished.
Throughout the season, Curry has led the Warriors outright in scoring, maintaining an impressive streak for a player at age 35 or older.
Warriors guard Klay Thompson expressed his admiration for Curry’s incredible start to the season, stating, “He is one of the hardest workers to play the game. The sky is the limit. He might change the narrative of what it looks like to be elite till you’re 40. LeBron [James] is doing the same and Steph is following suit.”
Curry had already wowed fans with stellar performances, including the memorable game in Sacramento and a controversial last-second game winner in Oklahoma City. What’s even more impressive is that the Warriors are not solely relying on Curry’s theatrics to lead the offense, unlike the previous season.
The team’s defense has significantly improved, allowing the Warriors to stay competitive even when Curry is off the court.
Previously, the Warriors heavily relied on Curry to dominate games to have a shot at winning. However, the improved defense this season has helped the team stay in games even when Curry is off the court.
This has also been facilitated by the offseason acquisition and future Hall of Famer Chris Paul, who has helped minimize turnovers and maintain the team’s performance in the absence of Curry on the court.
Even with all of his remarkable accomplishments, Curry remains humble, expressing surprise and joy at his own impressive moments and acknowledging the hard work and joy he brings to the game.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who has been an ardent supporter of Curry, has praised his exceptional performance and dedication to the game, suggesting that Curry could potentially make a strong push for his third MVP award.
On the possibility of Curry winning the MVP award, forward Draymond Green stated, “Absolutely, he can be MVP. 100%.”
