Barcelona wonderkid target offered three-year extension by current club – report

Barcelona’s interest in Alvaro Montoro, a 16-year-old Argentine talent, was revealed a month ago. However, the progress of his signing for Barcelona has hit a snag as his current team, Velez Sarsfield, has offered him a three-year professional contract.

Although Barcelona cannot pay a transfer fee for Montoro due to his age, sporting director Deco did meet with his agent in August to discuss a potential loan deal with a purchase option.

Despite the contract offer from Velez Sarsfield, Montoro is eager to play in Europe as early as this winter.

Montoro’s Desire to Join Barcelona Despite Strong Interest

In September, news broke about Barcelona’s interest in Montoro. The Blaugrana have been closely monitoring his progress, along with other clubs like Fiorentina, Sevilla, and Villarreal.

However, Montoro has made it clear that his priority is to secure a transfer to Barcelona during the upcoming January window.

It’s worth noting that despite being 16 years old, Montoro can make his transition to European football without delay as he also holds an Italian passport. This is why a January move to Barcelona was initially considered.

Barcelona Drops the Idea of Signing Montoro

However, Barcelona has recently ruled out the possibility of signing Montoro. The reasons behind this decision could be related to sporting considerations, financial factors, or a combination of both.

The emergence of talents like Gavi and Pedri in the first team, along with promising prospects like Fermín and the development of youth players such as Aleix Garrido, has made the acquisition of Montoro a lower priority for Barcelona as they plan for the future.

Currently, Barcelona has no plans to pursue the 16-year-old and their stance is unlikely to change, especially considering Sarsfield’s offer of a three-year extension.
