The Minnesota Wild clinched a 4-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night, with Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek scoring back-to-back goals in the third period.
Kaprizov broke the tie with a power play goal at 6:50, while Pat Maroon capitalized on a turnover to assist Eriksson Ek’s goal. Maroon also scored in the opening shift, and Vinni Lettieri tied the game in the second period for the Wild. The team had previously rallied with two goals in the third period during their 5-4 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves for the Wild, while Noah Dobson scored his second consecutive game for the Islanders, with Oliver Wahlstrom also finding the net. The Islanders’ point streak of five games came to an end, despite goalie Semyon Varlamov making 27 saves on home ice for the first time this season.
Maroon’s early goal just 19 seconds into the game marked the earliest goal of the NHL season and the quickest for the Wild since last April. Dobson and Wahlstrom contributed goals for the Islanders, while Lettieri ended his own scoring drought with a goal in the second period.
