UConn Women’s Basketball Star Azzi Fudd Injured, Out Indefinitely

UConn’s Azzi Fudd will be forced to sit out for an undetermined amount of time due to a non-contact knee injury sustained during practice last week. This marks the second-straight game that she will miss, leaving the Huskies without one of their key players. The news comes after Fudd was ruled out of UConn’s game against Maryland on Nov. 16 and the upcoming game against the Minnesota Gophers on Sunday. Paige Bueckers’ home state. UConn has not provided any further information on the guard’s condition but head coach Geno Auriemma stated that Fudd would undergo testing for the knee once initial swelling went down.
The team had 11 available players for their recent game against the Gophers, with two absences due to Fudd’s injury and Ayanna Patterson’s recovery from an offseason knee procedure. UConn is also facing the loss of redshirt freshman Jana El Alfy for the entire 2023-24 season after she suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in July. Fudd has a history of injuries, missing time her freshman year due to a foot injury and playing only 15 games last season because of a knee injury. She also tore both her MCL and ACL while in high school. Despite these setbacks, Fudd was off to a strong start this season, averaging 11.0 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 30.4 minutes in UConn’s first two games.
