Australia showed great resilience to defeat the Czech Republic 2-1 and secure their place in the Davis Cup semi-finals held in Malaga.
The Czechs took an early lead when Tomas Machac defeated Jordan Thompson 6-4 7-5. However, the tides turned as world number 12 Alex de Minaur came from behind to beat Jiri Lehecka 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 7-5, pushing the tie to the final doubles match.
Winning the deciding doubles, Wimbledon 2022 doubles champions Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell emerged victorious by defeating Lehecka and Adam Pavlasek with a score of 6-4 7-5.
Australia will now face Finland for a spot in Sunday’s final.
In the previous matches, world number 78 Machac defeated Thompson in straight sets, while De Minaur battled against Lehecka, managing to turn the tide in a marathon match that ultimately led to Australia’s victory.
With this win, Australia has secured a place in the semi-finals and the possibility of playing in Sunday’s final. In another highly anticipated showdown, Great Britain is set to face Serbia, led by Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
