The Associated Press college football poll has ranked Washington at No. 5, their highest ranking in six years. This comes after their thrilling victory against Oregon. Additionally, Air Force has been ranked for the first time since 2019.
The top four teams in the country remain unchanged with Georgia at No. 1, Michigan at No. 2, Ohio State at No. 3, and Florida State at No. 4. Washington received two first-place votes and surpassed Oklahoma and Penn State to reach their highest ranking since 2017.
Washington’s win against Oregon secured their spot at No. 5, while Oregon dropped one spot to No. 9. North Carolina also moved up two spots to No. 10 after defeating Miami.
On the other hand, Southern California dropped eight spots to No. 18 after their first loss of the season against Notre Dame. Air Force made a significant jump into the rankings at No. 22, remaining undefeated after defeating rival Wyoming.
Furthermore, Oregon State climbed three spots to No. 12, their highest ranking since 2012. Alabama remained at No. 11 after defeating Arkansas and has been out of the top 10 for five weeks.
In terms of conferences, the SEC and Pac-12 lead with six teams each in the rankings. The Big Ten has four teams, while the ACC and Big 12 have four and two teams, respectively. The American, Mountain West, and Independent conferences each have one ranked team.
Looking ahead, several ranked teams will face off against each other, including Penn State vs. Ohio State, Tennessee vs. Alabama, Duke vs. Florida State, and Utah vs. USC.
