SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Jo Adell has one more chance to show the Angels what he can do.
Adell, who has not yet reached his full potential, faces a make-or-break season in the majors. If the Angels don’t have a spot for him, he could be moving on to another organization.
“He knows what’s at stake,” General Manager Perry Minasian said during the GM Meetings. “I’m looking forward to seeing him in the spring.”
Adell has been working out with former major league outfielder Matt Holliday this offseason. The 24-year-old Adell, who hit .207 with a 706 OPS in 17 games last season, will be looking for a chance to prove himself again after missing out on an opportunity due to an oblique injury.
Going forward, he will need to continue to make strides offensively and defensively, especially with a competitive outfield lineup that includes top players such as Trout, Ward, and Moniak.
HOW MANY ARMS?
Minasian emphasized the Angels’ need to strengthen their pitching roster. Their top five starting pitchers are Patrick Sandoval, Reid Detmers, Griffin Canning, Tyler Anderson, and Chase Silseth. However, Minasian stressed that improving the pitching lineup remains a priority, considering the Angels’ need for both starters and relievers. He is determined to strengthen the group and bring in more pitching talent this off-season. The additional depth will be vital for the team in the long run.
NOTES
Boras shared that Cody Bellinger is open to playing either outfield or first base, but he is being pursued by teams interested in having him play center field. The agent also expressed his belief that the best interest of the player should be considered when determining their position on the field. Additionally, Minasian indicated that despite the Angels’ current shortage of prospects in the farm system, they still possess valuable assets that other teams are interested in. The team is open to exploring potential trade opportunities and is currently in talks with various teams to find suitable trades that will benefit them in the long term.
