After three months, the Sky have a new head coach in Teresa Weatherspoon

When former Chicago Sky head coach James Wade shocked the WNBA by stepping down from his position on July 1, his departure sent shock waves through the WNBA. Wade, who served as both the general manager and head coach of the Sky, left the organization midway through the season.

After an arduous three-month search, the Chicago Sky have finally found their new head coach.

Teresa Weatherspoon, a WNBA legend and Hall of Famer, has been named the franchiseโ€™s new head coach. Weatherspoon boasts an impressive resume, including being a five-time WNBA All-Star, four-time All-WNBA second team recipient, two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, assists and steals leader, and a member of the WNBA All-Decade Team. She has also achieved success on the international stage, earning two Olympic Games medals with Team USA.

In response to her appointment, Weatherspoon expressed her excitement, stating, “Iโ€™m thrilled to be a part of the Chicago Sky Family. Leading as the head coach of an organization in a city with such rich history and culture is truly a dream come true. Our team, business, and community endeavors will be fueled by excitement, excellence, and hard work. I am grateful to the entire Chicago organization for selecting me and I am looking forward to getting started.”

Weatherspoon brings over a decade of coaching experience to the Sky, previously serving as a player development coach for the New Orleans Pelicans from 2019-2023.

The Chicago Sky will officially introduce Weatherspoon as their new head coach on October 24.
