Adrian’s Ted Hanosh Receives Coach of the Year Award for Outstanding Leadership

Adrian boys soccer coach Ted Hanosh led the Maples to 14 wins and has been named county Coach of the Year.

ADRIAN — The upcoming boys soccer game between Adrian and Tecumseh is set to have an unusual atmosphere. Longtime head coaches, Ted Hanosh of Adrian and Jerry Nowak of Tecumseh, are both stepping down after decades of leading their rival programs, leaving a memorable mark on Lenawee County soccer.

Hanosh and the Maples achieved victory over their rivals this season, securing a season-sweep of Tecumseh while tallying 14 wins and 8 losses, coming just one win shy of a program record. As a result, Hanosh has been named Lenawee County Boys Soccer Coach of the Year for Adrian’s remarkable season, along with 32 others for boys and 25 girls soccer seasons.

The Maples kicked off the season with a 6-2 record before encountering a three-game losing streak, but they rallied to finish the season at 8-6. According to Hanosh, they were a “little streaky” but managed to go undefeated against county teams, particularly their rivals, which he finds gratifying.

The Maples’ success this season can be attributed to two exceptional seniors leading a group of talented underclassmen. Lenawee County Player of the Year, Joey Spagnoli, established a single-season record with 72 points, while fellow senior Brady Hanosh contributed 17 assists, and the Maples gained some valuable experience overall, setting a solid foundation for the future.

Despite the bittersweet ending to the season, Hanosh reflected on the players’ growth and expressed confidence in the team’s sophomores continuing to excel next season, setting the stage for further achievements.

“We had a group of freshmen last year that brought our JV back,” Hanosh said. “That’s important for us and our location because we don’t have a lot of kids who can go out and play in the offseason like our opponents do in our league.”

Hanosh remains humbled by his role in Lenawee County soccer and cherishes the memory of Joey Spagnoli’s kind gesture following their last game. These experiences define his coaching career and attest to the enduring impact he has had on the program and its players.
