ACM survives in 87-80 overtime thriller with Harford

On November 13th, the Allegany College of Maryland triumphed over Harford in a thrilling overtime encounter with a score of 87-80 at the Bob Kirk Arena. Despite facing challenges and not performing at their peak, the Trojans managed to rise to the occasion, especially on the defensive front.

Reflecting on the game, ACM head coach Tommie Reams described it as an “ugly basketball game” and attributed the team’s sluggish performance to their previous game against Niagara. He admitted that the team appeared slow and made numerous mental errors, resulting in a lack of continuity and timing. However, Reams acknowledged the Trojans’ effort and determination despite their subpar performance.

The first half of the game was closely contested, marked by frequent lead changes and ties. Allegany struggled with ball handling, leading to turnovers and easy scores for Harford. Despite the offensive difficulties, the team’s defense, spearheaded by players like Cam Brown and Brian Ayafor, kept them in the game.

As the physical play continued into the second half, the Trojans managed to maintain a lead until Harford staged a comeback, eventually forcing the game into overtime. However, Allegany regained momentum in overtime, scoring eight unanswered points and securing a hard-earned victory.

Leading by example, Cam Brown demonstrated his versatility on both ends of the court, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Other standout performances from Tyson Oghene, Lamont Jones, and Ayafor propelled Allegany to victory.

Looking ahead, the Trojans are gearing up to face No. 7 SUNY Sullivan in New York, recognizing the challenge of playing ranked opponents in the upcoming games as an opportunity for growth and development.

Coach Reams expressed his belief in facing tough opponents early in the season, emphasizing the team’s commitment to excellence and the invaluable lessons learned from overcoming adversity.
