A.J. McKee bloodies Sidney Outlaw, overcomes control disadvantage for unanimous decision win

Sidney Outlaw managed control time, but A.J. McKee came out victorious at Bellator 301.

Despite staying on his back throughout most of the lightweight fight, McKee secured a clean-sweep unanimous decision victory over Outlaw on Friday night at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The scorecards read 30-27 in favor of McKee, emphasizing that control time alone doesn’t guarantee a win.

Round 1 set the tone as Outlaw (17-6 MMA, 5-3 BMMA) took McKee down early. For the rest of the round, Outlaw mainly held McKee down, while McKee was active with punches and escape attempts from the bottom.

In Round 2, McKee defended Outlaw’s takedown attempt, then was taken down. McKee landed elbows, cutting Outlaw over his right eye. Outlaw laid on McKee for the latter part of the round. Round 3 saw the doctor examine Outlaw’s cut, allowing the fight to continue. McKee got a takedown and struck Outlaw with a steady barrage of left hands. Unofficially, Outlaw had 11 minutes of ground control to 2 minutes for McKee. McKee, a former Bellator featherweight champion, is now 3-0 as a lightweight.
