After undergoing ankle surgery, golf legend Tiger Woods made a surprising return to the sport at this week’s Hero World Challenge, expressing his satisfaction with his physical recovery after each round.
The 15-time major winner’s third round performance was encouraging, posting a one-under 71 and moving to level-par overall, tied for 16th in Albany, the Bahamas.
This tournament marked Woods’ return to competition since withdrawing from the Masters in April due to an injury, culminating in required surgery. Interest in his performance over four rounds has been high.
Reflecting on his third round, Woods mentioned, “It could’ve been a little bit better than the score indicates. I still have game, it’s whether or not the body can do it or not.”
He expressed pleasant surprise with his physical recovery and overall excitement about the week’s turnout.
Woods’ recent ankle surgery was a result of constant pain experienced during the Masters, his second competitive appearance in 2023.
The former world No.1 has faced numerous physical issues in the last few years, including severe leg injuries from a car crash two years ago.
Looking ahead, Woods mentioned competing in one tournament per month as the best and most realistic scenario for 2024.
During his third round, Tiger Woods recorded a mix of birdies and bogeys, finishing one-over-par on the final nine, an improvement from the previous two rounds.
As the tournament progresses, Woods finds himself 16 shots behind the leader, Scottie Scheffler, leading into the final day. England’s Matt Fitzpatrick is three shots behind in second.
