The Sacramento Kings shocked the Golden State Warriors with a comeback victory, overcoming a 24-point deficit to advance to the NBA In-Season Tournament quarterfinals and knock their Northern California rivals out of the inaugural event. Kings guard Malik Monk sealed the win with a wild go-ahead shot, while Steph Curry’s buzzer-beater attempt for the Warriors fell short.
To advance in the In-Season Tournament, the Kings needed to either beat the Warriors outright or lose by 11 or fewer points. Their thrilling victory in the West Group C finale secured their spot in the quarterfinals as the No. 2 seed in the West, setting up a matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Despite facing losses to the Pelicans earlier in the season, the Kings are looking to turn the tables in their upcoming quarterfinal game. Leading the charge for the Kings was De’Aaron Fox, who contributed a team-high 29 points, with Kevin Huerter, Harrison Barnes, and Malik Monk also delivering strong performances.
On the Warriors’ side, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins combined for 78 points in the loss, with Draymond Green returning from a suspension to add eight points, six rebounds, and three assists.
In the other West quarterfinal, the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers will face the wild-card Phoenix Suns, with the winners of both games set to meet in the In-Season Tournament semifinal. Over in the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knicks will face off in one quarterfinal, while the Indiana Pacers will take on the Boston Celtics in the other.
