Edu In Charge of Arsenal’s Transfer Business
Arsenal closed the weekend at the top of the Premier League table after Kai Havertz scored a dramatic winner against Brentford on Saturday.
The Germany international netted an 89th-minute header to secure a 1-0 victory for the Gunners on the road. Arsenal are currently one point clear of second-placed Manchester City, who dropped two points at home to Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Arsenal are set to face Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday at the Emirates. The Gunners can secure their spot in the last 16 of the tournament with a game to spare if they avoid defeat to Lens, who beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture.
Here are the latest headlines from the Emirates ahead of Wednesday’s game…
Edu’s transfer target
Arsenal’s sporting director Edu will try to sign Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window. The Brazilian midfielder, who is valued at €55milliom (£47.8m) by Transfermarkt, is one of Aston Villa’s most important players, having scored five league goals this season.
The Gunners tried to sign Luiz in August 2022, but Villa refused to sell and persuaded the international to sign a new contract until June 2026. Despite being rebuffed, Arsenal are expected to launch a new bid for Luiz when the transfer window re-opens shortly.
