Perez ‘excited’ to return to 4Aces GC lineup

Re-signing Pat Perez was a big win for the 4Aces GC team. After all, he was the most valuable Fourth Man on any LIV Golf League team in 2023. It comes as no surprise that his 4Aces captain, Dustin Johnson, wanted him back for another season.

Perez officially signed a new contract for 2024, making him the first free agent to do so. “I’m very grateful,” Perez said. “It’s phenomenal to remain a part of LIV. I’m beyond thrilled.”

Re-signing Pat Perez made the most sense for the Aces. He’s not only a great teammate and a glue guy in the clubhouse, but his performance on the field is also underrated.

Perez ranked 28th in the Individual standings this season with 47 points, the highest position of any team’s Fourth Man. Torque’s David Puig was the next best Fourth Man, ranking 31st. It’s worth noting that he would’ve ranked higher had he won all the tiebreakers in Adelaide, which could have moved him inside the top 24 Lock Zone and secured an automatic contract extension.

Perez provided his team with 24 counting scores among his 39 regular-season rounds. “I wasn’t really playing that great. But my score actually had to count a lot at some point to help us win,” Perez explained.

Once 230 pounds when he made his LIV debut, Perez played the 2023 season at 200 pounds. He said: “I think DJ saw the effort. And I think he likes having me on the team. I’m honored to get the deal and have another year.”

Now the goal is to maintain his weight level and work on his stamina. Perez believes he needs to put in more effort at age 47 to keep up with the competition. He added: “I’m never going to look like Joaquin Niemann. I don’t have that frame, don’t have that build. But I’ve tried to build stamina to just feel better, so when I need to put in the work and need to grind, I have the energy to do it.”

Perez finds motivation in not letting down his teammates and wants to avoid being labeled a passenger on the powerhouse lineup. Their primary objective in 2024 is to get back to the top of the mountain.

So, for 2024, Perez eagerly awaits joining his teammates in that chase and contributing as many low scores as possible.

Lastly, here’s how each team’s Fourth Man – the lowest point producer among the four regular members of the lineup – fared in the Individual Champion standings in 2023:

– Pat Perez (4Aces): 47 points and ranked 28th
– David Puig (Torque): 40 points and ranked 31st
– Eugenio Chacarra (Fireballs): 31 points and ranked 32nd
– Paul Casey (Crushers): 20 points and ranked 35th
– Bubba Watson (RangeGoats): 20 points and ranked 36th
