Suns, Mercury owner Mat Ishbia to invest in Mercury practice facility

Mat Ishbia acquired the Phoenix Suns and the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury in February.

PHOENIX (AP) — Mat Ishbia, the owner of the Phoenix Suns, has revealed plans to invest over $100 million in constructing a dedicated practice facility for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and a downtown campus for Suns and Mercury employees.

With his swift actions since acquiring the Suns and Mercury, including major trades and television package reworking, Ishbia has demonstrated a significant imprint on the franchise following his $4 billion acquisition. In the latest move, he aims to develop a 123,000-square-foot (11,400-square-meter) facility, with over 58,000 square feet (5,400 square meters) solely dedicated to the Mercury practice facility.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Ishbia expressed his commitment to investing in the Mercury and women’s basketball, emphasizing the construction of a state-of-the-art facility designed specifically for the Mercury’s needs.

“It’s not designed for the Suns and Mercury to share. It’s designed for the Mercury,” said Ishbia.
