The 2023 Maui Invitational promises three action-packed days of men’s college basketball, with eight teams facing off in Hawai’i. This year’s tournament line-up includes Gonzaga, Kansas, Marquette, Purdue, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCLA, and Chaminade. Among the winners, Duke holds the record for the most titles, claiming victory in 1992, 1997, 2001, 2007, and 2011.
It’s worth noting that leading into 2018, Duke was one of two programs to be undefeated in the invitational. However, they stumbled in the 2018 championship game against Gonzaga. Going into 2018, the Blue Devils had a strong record of 16-0, while Syracuse remained undefeated at 10-0.
DII Chaminade, a fixture in the championship bracket, didn’t participate in the 2018 tournament but will return in 2023 and feature in the Maui bracket in odd-numbered years. Chaminade’s historic upset of California in 2017 and their upcoming game against Kansas this year add to the event’s rich legacy.
