The Pitt Panthers have a recent history of recruiting quarterbacks from the state of New Jersey.
It began with the commitment of Kenny Pickett from Oakhurst, N.J. in the class of 2017, and then continued with Nick Patti from Montvale, N.J. in the class of 2018.
Tonight, Pitt will be hosting another quarterback from the Garden State, and there appears to be mutual interest, despite a formal offer not being extended yet.
Jack Moran (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) is a 2025 recruit from The Hun School in Hillsborough, N.J. and Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with him as he made his way to Pittsburgh for tonight’s game against Boston College.

“I attended a camp in Pittsburgh over the summer, and I’ve been in contact with coach (Frank) Cignetti. I’ve been talking to them for the last two years, so it’s been quite some time,” Moran said. “I’ve been on FaceTime with coach (Alex) Kline and on Aug. 1 when we were officially allowed to talk to coaches. I just love the environment out in Pittsburgh, and I’ve been trying to set up a visit ever since I’ve been out there. Today was a good day to come back and see the staff and hopefully the guys can get a win.”
“When I was there in the summer, they loved my arm, they just wanted to see some film. Now I have that, so hopefully we can take the next step in the recruiting process. I’m super excited.”
Moran’s quarterback coach is someone that Pitt fans are familiar with, Tony Racioppi, who also serves as Kenny Pickett’s personal coach. PSN asked Moran to describe his style of play and the strengths of his game.
“I think most importantly my arm strength,” said Moran. “That’s a big part of my game, me being able to make throws from anywhere on the field, on-time and accurately. My pocket presence, knowing when to stay in and when to get out and make throws on the run. I can also extend plays.”
This will be Moran’s first gameday visit, although he attended one as a fan a couple of years ago against Virginia when Pitt clinched the ACC Coastal title. Currently, Moran holds offers from Maryland and UConn but hopes he’s able to add Pitt to that list in the near future.
“I think I’m close (to getting an offer), but an offer from Pitt would be huge for me,” Moran said. “Especially given the connection between my quarterback coach, Coach Racioppi, and honestly the whole staff. An offer from Pitt would be very important to me and my coaches.”
