Discover the latest Atlanta Braves news and updates from Thursday
Thursday was an eventful day for the Atlanta Braves in terms of news. Notably, the star outfielder, Ronald Acuña Jr., was crowned the National League MVP after his outstanding 2023 season. Acuña earned this prestigious honor unanimously, receiving all 30 first-place votes. In the American League, Shohei Ohtani also clinched the MVP award.
The 25-year-old Acuña had an extraordinary 2023 season, achieving a .337/.416/.596 slash line, along with a monumental 41 home runs and 73 stolen bases. His exceptional performance placed him in the exclusive 40/40 club and further solidified his place in the 40/70 club, becoming only the fifth player in Major League Baseball history to achieve this feat.
Acuña now joins the ranks of Freddie Freeman, Chipper Jones, Terry Pendleton, Dale Murphy, Hank Aaron, Robert Elliott, and John Evers as an MVP recipient in the Braves franchise.
Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies, and Marcell Ozuna also garnered votes in the MVP race.
