Mateo Kovacic reveals transfer regret as he opens up on life under Pep Guardiola

Mateo Kovacic has expressed regret for not joining Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side earlier in his career. The midfielder, who won four trophies during his time at Chelsea, including the Champions League, before leaving during the summer transfer window, joined City from Chelsea in the summer for £25 million. Kovacic says he is enjoying learning Guardiola’s ways and wishes he had done so earlier in his career.

“It’s amazing and tough because I’m learning a lot of new things and I would have loved to come at an earlier age to learn,” said Kovacic. “But it’s never too late to learn. I think like that. So I’m happy I can learn from him and what he tells you.”

Kovacic also admitted that he would’ve loved someone to have told him a few years ago and noted Guardiola’s coaching methods, saying, “It was tough the first few days to understand what he wants.” He mentioned that the Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, who signed for City at a cost of £77.6 million, has what it takes to dominate in European football and will have a glittering career.
