Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones has been taken into custody on Monday evening in Jacksonville on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, according to The Associated Press.

Jones was arrested and taken to the Duval County Jail just after 6 p.m. ET on Monday, and he is set to make his initial court appearance on Tuesday morning. The specifics that led to his arrest are as yet unclear, but he has been booked for domestic battery causing bodily harm.

The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor in Florida and carries a potential penalty of up to 180 days in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000.

“We are aware of the situation and are in the midst of gathering information,” the Jaguars stated in a release via The Associated Press. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

28-year-old Jones has appeared in only three games this season due to knee soreness, causing him to miss the Jaguars’ last four games and six of their last seven. He has managed 78 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches this season. While he returned to practice in a limited capacity last week, it remains uncertain when he will be ready to play again. Jones’ last game was against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 8, during which he recorded 23 yards and a touchdown on three catches.

Last season, Jones totaled 823 yards and five touchdowns on 82 catches, his first season with the Jaguars. Prior to joining Jacksonville, the former East Carolina star also played for the Buffalo Bills and the Raiders. He is currently in the second year of a three-year, $24 million deal.

The Jaguars are scheduled to face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, holding a 6-3 record, which leads the AFC South, despite a 34-3 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday that ended a five-game win streak.
