NEW ORLEANS, La. — The New Orleans Saints have made a significant move by adding pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul to their practice squad, as confirmed by a team spokesperson.
The 34-year-old veteran has not seen game action this season and most recently played in 14 games for the Baltimore Ravens last season, where he managed to secure three sacks.
Addressing rumors of retirement, Pierre-Paul posted a workout video on his Instagram account, asserting that he still has more to offer in the NFL.
The Saints’ decision to bring in Pierre-Paul comes as they seek to bolster their struggling pass rush, currently ranked 26th in the NFL with 18 sacks. The team also recently added defensive end Jordan Willis to the practice squad. With their defensive ends only totaling 7 sacks, and Isaiah Foskey, their second-round pick, sidelined due to injury, the Saints are in need of reinforcements.
While Carl Granderson leads the team with 5.5 sacks, his production has declined in recent games, and veteran Cameron Jordan has only managed two sacks so far this season.
Pierre-Paul, a former first-round pick for the New York Giants, brings a wealth of experience to the Saints. A three-time Pro Bowler, he most recently earned the honor in 2020 while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With 94.5 career sacks, including 5.5 over the past two seasons, Pierre-Paul adds a proven pass-rushing ability to the Saints’ roster.
