Minneapolis/St. Paul – The NBA has honored Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards as the Western Conference Player of the Week for the games played from Monday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 12. This accolade marks Edwards’ first career Player of the Week honor, making him the ninth player in Timberwolves history to receive this weekly award.
Edwards achieved an average of 31.3 points per game over the week, shooting at an impressive 47.4%. He also excelled in other areas, averaging 6.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Following the Timberwolves’ 4-0 week, Edwards now ranks 10th in the NBA for scoring, with 28.4 points per game. His 256 points this season are the highest by a Timberwolves player in the first nine games of a season.
The 6-4 guard’s outstanding performance contributed to the Timberwolves’ 7-2 record this season, with a flawless 5-0 record at Target Center after their recent 122-101 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. This is only the third time in Minnesota’s history that the team has won seven of its first nine games of a season, joining the ranks of 1998-99 (7) and 2001-02 (8). Additionally, the Timberwolves have won six straight games, currently tied for the longest active streak in the Western Conference.
Edwards’ exceptional play commenced with a season-high 38 points against the Boston Celtics. He continued to impress with a game-high 26 points and eight assists in the victory over New Orleans. Finally, Edwards wrapped up the week with another remarkable performance against the Warriors, ending with 33 points and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, marking his first 30+ point game while going perfect from the line.
In the same week, Joel Embiid from the Philadelphia 76ers was named the Player of the Week from the Eastern Conference.
