Throughout the early days of the offseason, there are a few noteworthy developments for MLBTR readers to keep an eye on…
1. The Pending Posting of Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Following the Orix Buffaloes’ loss in Game 7 of the Japan Series to the Hanshin Tigers, it was announced earlier this week that star right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been approved for posting. The next step for Yamamoto is to be officially posted, after which he will have a 45-day window to sign with any MLB club. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, Yamamoto’s posting window is expected to open in the near future, possibly next week.
Yamamoto, at 25 years old, is one of the most exciting pitching free agents in the market. With a remarkable 1.42 ERA in 557 2/3 innings over the past three seasons in NPB, he is viewed as a potential ace-caliber arm for an MLB club. Based on his youth and talent, Yamamoto secured the #3 spot on MLBTR’s annual Top-50 free agents list, with a projected nine-year, $225MM deal.
