Brooke Henderson goes on a tear to take 1-shot lead on LPGA Tour

Setting the tone as the leader of The Annika, Brooke Henderson fired off an opening round of 62 at the LPGA Tour to take a one-shot lead in Belleair, Fla. on Thursday. The Canadian pro was inspired to hit a 29 on the front nine, securing the lead over Jin Young Ko and Patty Tavatanakit with a long birdie putt on the par-3 ninth hole.

“Ball-striking has been a strength of mine and has been a bit off recently, but I switched irons and feel like I’m back on track,” Henderson explained. “I’ve always been used to hitting all 18 greens and giving myself a lot of birdie opportunities.” she mentioned.

Henderson, who won the season opener in Florida but hasn’t won since, is ready to make a comeback. Ranked No. 13 in the women’s world ranking, her sights are set on the CME Group Tour Championship, as it is the last tournament for the top 60 players to secure their positions.

Joining the quest for a spot in the season-ending championship are players like Patty Tavatanakit, Emily Kristine Pedersen, Minami Katsu, Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda, and many more. The competition is fierce, but the ambiance is electric at the Pelican Golf Club.
