The Flyers were the bearers of good news in yesterday’s game.
However, this good news also posed a lineup decision for them.
The team made the announcement of Sean Couturier’s return for tonight’s game after being sidelined for the last two games due to a lower-body injury, meaning Morgan Frost will be a healthy scratch for the seventh time this season. The Flyers are set to open their California road swing against the Sharks (10:30 p.m. ET/NBCSP).

The Flyers went 1-1-0 without Couturier, claiming a 5-1 victory over the Sabres last Friday but felt his absence during a 5-0 loss to the Kings the following night. Couturier, a 30-year-old, has amassed eight points (two goals, six assists) in 19:32 minutes per game over 10 games following a 22-month hiatus due to back surgeries.
Frost, a young playmaking center, has been a surprising healthy scratch for more than half of the Flyers’ games. Last season, he showed promise after leading the Flyers in scoring from Jan. 1 and signed a two-year, $4.2 million contract. It’s been quite unexpected to see him sidelined despite his potential and contribution in the previous season.
San Jose, currently at a 0-10-1 record, presents an opportunity for Frost to make an impact, especially with the Sharks surrendering a league-worst 4.91 goals per game. Unfortunately, the Flyers will be without Frost, who could have capitalized on San Jose’s record to build confidence offensively.
The club also confirmed Samuel Ersson as the starting goalie against the Sharks, with Cal Petersen as the backup. As per The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz, Carter Hart is on the road trip, practicing Monday, and is currently day-to-day due to a mid-body injury.
