Kathleen’s Darby Hancock betters from assistant coach

Throughout the past four seasons, Kathleen golfer Darby Hancock has been dedicated to enhancing her knowledge and skills to excel as a player.

With the mentoring of assistant golf coach Bob Hartley, a retired Polk County principal and teacher, Hancock has significantly improved her golf course mentality. As a result, she advanced to state after shooting 1-over in regionals at Royal St. Cloud and 3-under in districts at Cleveland Heights, her best score to date. During the regionals, she tied for sixth with a score of 71, matching her personal best.

Expressing her gratitude for his guidance, Hancock stated, “He’s been a really big help with helping with my motivation and my confidence and helping me get in the right mindset when I’m out on the golf course.”

As Hartley’s second year coaching her, Hancock showcased her appreciation for his increased involvement in her progress. Always present at each match and practice, Hartley has been pivotal in driving both Hancock and Kathleen golfer Ashley Driskell forward.

Reflecting on a tournament at Crutchfield, Hancock acknowledges Hartley’s influence in restoring equilibrium, “He was there to help me. He was telling me, ‘Stay in the game, just don’t focus on what’s happened in the past,’ just kind of focus on the shots that you’re taking.”

This motivation led Hancock to come out on top with a score of 71. Grateful for his support, she said, ” He was there every step of the way. And I really appreciate what he did, and he kept me calm and levelheaded, and made sure that I wasn’t stressing too much about that tournament.”

Enhancing her skill set has been by improving her short game, with Hancock executing more birdies. Her rigorous training at Eaglebrook, participating in different drills for several hours, has contributed to her continuous improvement.
