Agent reveals former Giants shortstop Crawford hopes to play in 2024 originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Brandon Crawford, the longtime Giants shortstop and now a free agent after 13 years with San Francisco, is planning a comeback on the diamond in 2024, as per his agent Joel Wolfe who disclosed this to the San Francisco Chronicle’s John Shea on Tuesday.

According to Wolfe, Crawford is receiving interest from multiple clubs and has been approached by several teams to consider leaving the Giants, the team he grew up rooting for and that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB Draft.

Crawford, known as the greatest shortstop in franchise history, holds fourth place in team defensive bWAR (14.3) and seventh in games played (1,654). He played a key role in leading the Giants to World Series titles in 2012 and 2014, was a three-time All-Star, and won four Gold Gloves at shortstop.

Despite coming off his worst season in 2023, with a career-low batting average, Crawford received a heartfelt “unofficial farewell” from the Giants in the 2023 season finale, hinting that it could have been his final game with the team.

Wolfe also noted that Crawford is willing to take on playing roles at second or third base, and is open to returning to San Francisco or considering other options.

If Crawford returns to the Giants, it may not be in his familiar shortstop role, as the organization’s president of baseball operations expressed commitment to playing prospect Mario Luciano as the primary shortstop next year.

As the MLB offseason begins, the possibility of a reunion between Crawford and the Giants remains open.
