The Silverado girls’ tennis team is dominating the court.
In the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 quarterfinals on Monday afternoon, Silverado secured a spot in the program’s first-ever semifinal appearance. The Hawks defeated Estancia 13-5 at home.
This achievement is even more remarkable due to being only the third girls tennis program from the High Desert to earn a CIF-SS playoffs semifinal appearance. The last local girls squad to reach the semis was Apple Valley in 2021.
“This is a big deal for us, but these girls aren’t quite done,” said Silverado coach Bill Mocharnuk. “This was a tough win over an Orange County team that was consistent and tricky to play. Hitting the ball with patience paid off as we started ahead the first round with a 4-2 lead. It was just another great team effort.”
The Silverado girls’ tennis doubles team, Emalie Barajas and Ellie Valadez, made an epic comeback from a four-point deficit to win the tiebreak 6-1, setting the tone of the match. They also went on to win the next two matches 6-2 and 6-1. They had an outstanding performance, finishing with a score of 7-6(1), 6-2, 6-1.
Mallin Muller shined in singles action, securing an impressive sweep with scores of 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. Olivia Ibarra and Jazell Siaquat also had strong performances, winning two of three sets.
In the upcoming semifinals on Wednesday afternoon, the Hawks will face Woodcrest Christian, which beat Hueneme 14-4 in the quarterfinals. Silverado will take their 21-game winning streak into the next round.
