Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has announced the end of Ryan Gravenberch’s exile from the Dutch national team setup, revealing when he could make his return.
Gravenberch withdrew from the Netherlands U21s squad in September to concentrate on his move to Liverpool, causing discontent within the Dutch FA (KNVB).
U21s manager Michael Reiziger criticized the midfielder’s decision, and Koeman supported him by leaving Gravenberch out of the squad for both October and November.
Despite being left out of Koeman’s provisional squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, the manager recently discussed his potential recall in an interview with Ziggo Sport.
“I called him before the pre-selection was announced and told him he was not selected,” Koeman explained. “But if he continues to develop, he will join the Dutch national team.
“I want to work with the same group as much as possible in the upcoming international matches. We are going to qualify, so he needs to play more to be considered.”
Koeman also pointed out that technical director Nigel de Jong of the KNVB visited Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, potentially paving the way for Gravenberch’s reintegration into the squad.
When asked if Gravenberch’s exile remains, Koeman responded, “No, that’s over. If he is called, he must come.”
