After securing a victory at the Zozo Championship, Collin Morikawa has become the second player to sign with one of the six inaugural TGL Golf League teams. He joins Justin Thomas, who recently agreed to sign with the Atlanta Drive Golf Club.
The Los Angeles Golf Club captured the moment of Morikawa receiving the news, which was accompanied by some rather peculiar comments.
Morikawa enthusiastically exclaimed, “Absolutely! I’m in. I just got chills throughout my body. I don’t think I’ve ever answered a call like this. I received my Ryder Cup call this year, but I believe this one surpasses it. We’re going to make history together. I am thrilled to be a part of the team. I cannot wait to represent LA and the esteemed LA Golf Club. We are destined for greatness.”

Some may argue that Morikawa’s reaction seemed staged, but he genuinely believes that this opportunity is comparable to being selected for a Ryder Cup team, an achievement he has already accomplished twice.
One can only hope that the 26-year-old was exaggerating in his comparison.
In his debut at Whistling Straits, Morikawa contributed to Team USA’s dominating 19-9 victory over Team Europe, finishing with an impressive record of 3-0-1 in 2021.
Unfortunately, his second Ryder Cup experience was not as triumphant. Playing in Rome, Morikawa struggled with a record of 1-3-0 as Team Europe overwhelmed the Americans, leaving them dejected. As it stands, Morikawa’s overall record in this biennial event is 4-3-1.
While the TGL Golf League, spearheaded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, presents an exciting prospect, it is worth considering whether it holds the same level of importance as a Ryder Cup.
Morikawa’s enthusiasm for representing Los Angeles and the LA Golf Club is commendable, but perhaps he should find a more fitting analogy to express his excitement.
