Montserrat Conejo believes that her true potential in the UFC has yet to be seen by fans.
Since her successful UFC debut in 2021, Conejo hasn’t had the best results. After a unanimous decision win over Cheyanne Vlismas, she was stopped by TKO in subsequent fights against Amanda Lemos and Jaqueline Amorim.
“Yes, unfortunately I’m coming off two losses, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to move forward and win,” Conejo told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “My objective is to go out there and win and give it my all.”
“I’m working extremely hard. Mentally and physically, I feel much better, and that’s what matters. I’m carrying a little chip on my shoulder after those two defeats. I’m motivated and ready to prove myself. This is the one.”
Conejo (10-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is set to return to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 231, which will take place at Ginasio Do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo. The event will be streamed on ESPN+. Conejo will face Brazil’s Eduarda Moura (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC).
Conejo, 30, represented the Mexican women’s national wrestling team in her earlier years and is a seven-time national champion in wrestling. Despite her impressive background, Conejo believes that she hasn’t been able to showcase her wrestling skills due to knee injuries, including a torn meniscus. Now that she’s healthy, Conejo is determined to get back to her roots.
“I feel like I haven’t been able to show what I’m truly capable of – wrestling,” Conejo said. “Returning to my base means defending takedowns and improving my striking on the feet. I consider myself an aggressive fighter, but in my recent fights, I didn’t feel like the aggressor. It’s time for me to return to my roots.”
