New York Knicks Officially Pick Up Quentin Grimes’ Team Option for 2024/25 Season

“One game at a time,” said Quentin Grimes after the Knicks’ season-opening loss. “You can’t look too far.”
Grimes is taking a step-by-step approach to the season, but the Knicks are moving at a different pace. On Thursday, SNY’s Ian Begley reported that the Knicks will exercise Quentin Grimes’ rookie scale team option for next season.
In the 2021 draft, the Knicks acquired Grimes by trading Keon Johnson for the no. 25 pick. Grimes is entering his fourth season in the league.
Through his first three seasons, Grimes has averaged 9.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game with shooting splits of 45.1/38.4/77.8. In the Knicks’ season opener, he scored 11 points on 7 field goals with 4 makes, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Grimes will earn nearly $4.3 million next season before becoming eligible for an extension or restricted free agency in 2025.
The Knicks’ decision not to extend Immanuel Quickley’s contract and instead focusing on Grimes could be related to roster management. Quickley’s trade value is seen as more manageable due to his lower salary compared to the potential numbers of his new deal.
Grimes, while behind Quickley in terms of minutes and statistics, is recognized for his defense, efficient shooting, and yet to reach his full potential. As the Knicks opt for Grimes’ team option, it remains to be seen if this decision will pay off in the long run.
