Jalen Johnson soaring high for Hawks

New York Knicks v Atlanta Hawks

New York Knicks v Atlanta Hawks

In my best Sam Ehlinger voice, we’re baaaaaaaack! This is the first Pickups of the Day column for the season, and it’s going to be a doozy.

For those who are new, these daily columns highlight widely available players (over 50% rostered in Yahoo leagues) that you should consider picking up for your fantasy team. Whether it’s for the rest of the season, a few weeks as a streamer, or just a one-game wonder, these players have the potential to make an impact.

We understand that not all of these players will be available in highly competitive leagues. But for those in deeper leagues, these players are often overlooked gems. So let’s jump into the action and see who could help boost your team as the first week of the fantasy season comes to a close.

Gordon Hayward (49% rostered in Yahoo leagues)

Hayward has been sensational to start the season, and it’s time to give him some attention. He’s averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 triple. Yes, there may be concerns about potential injuries, but his production makes him worth the risk. Don’t let him sit on the waiver wire any longer.

Jalen Johnson (37%)

It’s surprising that Johnson is still available in so many leagues. He has been a standout player for the Hawks, and it won’t be long before he’s in the starting lineup. Despite coming off the bench, he’s already playing significant minutes and making a significant impact for Atlanta.

Cole Anthony (27%)

Anthony had a strong season opener and has continued to put up solid numbers. He’s averaging 19 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two triples. As the sixth man and primary ball handler for the bench unit, he’s in a role that suits him well.

Kevin Love (24%)

Love had a quieter game on Friday, but he’s shown potential with a double-double in the opener. With Caleb Martin potentially sidelined, Love should see increased minutes and will be needed to compete against Minnesota’s big men.

Isaac Okoro (21%)

Okoro has been fantastic through two games, starting in both of them. He’s averaged 14 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.0 block, and 1.5 triples. Even if Darius Garland returns from injury, Okoro should keep his starting role.

Eric Gordon (13%)

Gordon is worth considering as Devin Booker plans to return soon, and Bradley Beal is out for Saturday’s game. While he may not be the most exciting fantasy option, he can provide three-point shooting.

Andrew Nembhard (11%)

Nembhard could see increased playing time if Tyrese Haliburton is unable to play due to illness. He had a strong opening game with 10 assists and may slide into the starting lineup if Haliburton is sidelined.

Chris Duarte (3%)

Duarte had a rough game on Friday, but there’s potential for him to make a greater impact. He played more minutes than Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk, and with a possible move to the starting lineup, he could become a valuable fantasy asset.

Jordan Goodwin (2%)

In the absence of Booker and Beal, Goodwin had a solid performance with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. While his value may diminish when the stars return, he’s worth keeping an eye on.
