Roslovic scores in OT, Blue Jackets recover to defeat Wild

Danforth gave the Blue Jackets an early advantage with a goal at 8:55 of the opening period. He capitalized on his own rebound after Gustavsson initially stopped his deflection from point-blank range.

In the second period, Kent Johnson extended Columbus’ lead to 2-0 at 6:10. Cole Sillinger won the face-off and passed it back to Johnson, who swiftly fired a one-timer for his first goal of the season.

Mermis responded with a snap shot through traffic at 7:21, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

Mats Zuccarello equalized for the Wild just 54 seconds later at 8:15. He received a backhand pass from Ryan Hartman and unleashed a snap shot, netting his first goal of the season.

Columbus dominated the second period, outshooting Minnesota 22-6.

“[Gustavsson] made some incredible saves,” Johansson acknowledged. “He played remarkably. It’s our responsibility to perform better in front of him and score more goals when needed.”

In the third period, Jonas Brodin scored his first goal of the season at 4:42. His shot deflected off Merzlikins’ blocker, giving the Wild a 3-2 lead.

At 7:36, Boone Jenner received a backhand pass from Zach Werenski in the slot and tied the game at 3-3.

Zuccarello appeared to have put the Wild ahead 4-3 at 11:54, but the goal was disallowed as Johansson preceded the puck into the offensive zone.

“Anything can happen in overtime, but it’s frustrating that our power play goal was called off,” Zuccarello expressed. “And then they scored right after. We fought back, but ultimately they made it difficult for us. Defensively, we weren’t up to par.”

Jenner had an outstanding performance, registering eight shots on goal, blocking five shots, and winning 17 of 21 face-offs (81 percent) in 22 minutes and 46 seconds of ice time.

“We felt like we earned our chances with our aggressive play in their zone,” said Jenner, who serves as the Blue Jackets captain. “We had some good opportunities. We know that if we stick to our game plan, success will follow.”
