WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. (CBS) — Two youth baseball players from New Jersey are bringing some luck to the Philadelphia Phillies’ playoff run. The Anderson brothers from West Deptford Township have been creating rubber band bracelets this summer, with one of their favorites being one that represents the Phillies with red, white, and blue. They decided to send their favorite player, Bryce Harper, a special bracelet just for him, complete with a pop of green for the Phillie Phanatic. To their surprise, Harper wore the bracelet during one of the Phillies’ series against the New York Mets and has continued to wear it ever since.
“He’s the best player ever,” said Jayce Anderson. “And I hope they win the World Series with him.” His brother Wyatt Anderson added, “You are my favorite baseball player, and I hope you keep your hitting streak up.”
In addition to the bracelet, the boys also sent Harper their autographed baseball cards and a note wishing him luck during Red October. Dave Anderson, the boys’ father, was overwhelmed with emotion when he saw Harper wearing the bracelet. Despite receiving requests to make and sell the special Harper bracelets, the Anderson boys are keeping them exclusively for their favorite player.
Phillies Bracelets and Necklaces
It seems that homemade bracelets and necklaces are a trend among the Philadelphia Phillies this year. Pitcher José Alvarado began making beaded necklaces during the regular season while on the injured list, and they quickly became popular among his teammates. Several Phillies players were seen wearing them throughout the season. In July, a fan even traded a homemade necklace with Alvarado during a game. April Bremme caught his attention with a sign and they made the trade.
