Renowned Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho arrived in Kolkata on Sunday for a two-day visit.
A crowd of enthusiastic fans eagerly awaited Ronaldinho’s arrival outside the airport terminal, greeting him with excitement as he walked out.
The football legend is scheduled to take part in several events during his stay, including the inauguration of a Durga Puja pandal. There are also plans for him to meet with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
This visit marks Ronaldinho’s first trip to the football-crazy city of Kolkata, which has previously hosted other football icons such as Pele, Diego Maradona, and Lionel Messi.
Earlier this month, the former Ballon d’Or winner announced his upcoming visit to Kolkata on Facebook. In his post, he expressed the purpose of his visit and shared his intention to visit the Sree Bhumi Sporting Club.
“Hello Everybody, I am excited to announce my first-ever trip to Kolkata in mid-October. During my visit, I will be engaging in various charitable activities, including a visit to my R10 Football academy where I will have the opportunity to interact with young aspiring footballers at Merlin Rise. Additionally, I will be experiencing the diverse cultural aspects of the city and participating in the vibrant Durga Puja Festivities by visiting Shree Bhumi Sporting, Ahirtola Yuvak Brindo, Baruipur, Green Park & Rishra. Moreover, I will also participate in a charity football match and grace the ground of Diamond Harbour Fc,” Ronaldinho shared on Facebook.
He further added, “I am looking forward to meeting the incredible Brazil fans in Kolkata, and it would be an absolute honor to meet the esteemed Chief Minister of West Bengal and present her with a jersey. I am aware of the immense popularity of cricket in India, so this time I also wish to learn cricket from Bengal’s beloved legend, ‘Dada’.”
“I would like to express my gratitude to all the sponsors involved, especially Mr. Saket Mohta from Merlin, who has partnered with my R10 Football academy. Lastly, I would like to thank Satadru for making this opportunity possible and allowing me to experience the beauty of the City of Joy. Let the Samba Magic begin this Durga Puja! Ami tomader bhalo bhashi!” Ronaldinho concluded.
