Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike selected for All-WNBA second team

Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike has achieved an impressive feat by being chosen for the All-WNBA team for the sixth time in her illustrious 12-year career.

Ogwumike displayed outstanding performance throughout the season, averaging 19.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. Her exceptional skills have earned her second-team honors, making it her fifth selection to the second team. Notably, she was a part of the All-WNBA first team during her MVP season in 2016.

Sparks coach Curt Miller expressed his admiration for Ogwumike, stating, “Nneka had a fantastic 2023 season and continues to solidify her position as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. Her contributions during her 12th WNBA season have been extraordinary, and she remains one of the most efficient players in our league.”

In addition to her All-WNBA recognition, Ogwumike has also been honored with All-Defensive accolades this season. She became the fifth player in WNBA history to achieve 100 career double-doubles. Moreover, she set new records for the Sparks, scoring 689 points and making 264 field goals in a single season, while also securing the second-highest scoring position in franchise history, just behind Lisa Leslie.

The first-team selections for this season’s All-WNBA team include Breanna Stewart from the New York Liberty, who was awarded the season MVP, Alyssa Thomas from the Connecticut Sun, and A’ja Wilson from the Las Vegas Aces, all of whom received unanimous votes. Napheesa Collier from the Minnesota Lynx and Satou Sabally from the Dallas Wings also earned spots on the first team.

Joining Ogwumike on the second team are guards Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray from the Aces, Jewell Loyd from the Seattle Storm, and Sabrina Ionescu from the Liberty.
