Top-60 2024 point guard Trent Perry commits to USC

Harvard-Westlake point guard Trent Perry has seen a significant rise in the rankings this year. The talented prospect, now ranked No. 57 overall in the Rivals rankings for 2024, recently made a decision on his college recruitment, just weeks before the early signing period in November.

Despite receiving offers from various schools across the country, Perry chose to stay in Southern California and announced his commitment to play for USC at the Top Flight Invite event in Las Vegas.

After considering offers from Gonzaga, Oregon, Colorado, TCU, and Stanford, Perry ultimately felt that USC was the right fit for him. Although he visited all the schools on his final list except Gonzaga, it was USC that left a lasting impression on him during his official visit.

Perry stated, “USC has always been there. We have a good relationship. … USC is a big school. I know their basketball team is very good because of the coaches. Actually getting to see how the school is and having meetings with different academic advisors was a really good experience.”

In the end, Perry’s decision was heavily influenced by the relationships he built with the Trojan coaching staff, including head coach Andy Enfield.

Perry described Enfield as a “really good guy” and praised his welcoming and player-centric coaching style. He believes that Enfield’s family-oriented approach will contribute to a positive environment at USC.

As a high-level point guard, Perry played a pivotal role in guiding Harvard-Westlake to a successful season, culminating in a CIF Open Division state title during his junior year.

His commitment to USC signifies his development as a high-major prospect, following an extensive recruiting process that took him to various schools across the country.

“I had to take baby steps from freshman to sophomore, and sometimes I didn’t play much,” Perry reflected. “… When I was waiting my turn, I was able to succeed. I was able to become the best point guard I can be, and I’m still growing.”

Perry’s commitment to USC adds to the strength of their 2024 class, joining four-star shooting guard Liam Campbell. USC had the No. 2-ranked class in the 2023 cycle, highlighted by the acquisitions of the No. 1 recruit Isaiah Collier and local guard Bronny James.
