Viviane Araujo eyeing potential rematch with Alexa Grasso – but snapping skid comes first

LAS VEGAS – Viviane Araujo shares the same curiosity as most fighters in her weight division – keeping an eye on the champions. At women’s flyweight, that champion is none other than Alexa Grasso, a fighter Araujo spent 25 intense minutes with. It was Grasso’s unanimous decision victory over Araujo that earned her a title shot against Valentina Shevchenko, resulting in a shocking upset and later repeating the feat in their rematch.

Currently on a two-fight losing streak, Araujo (11-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC) understands that she won’t be given another opportunity to face Grasso with just one win. Yet, she approaches her upcoming UFC Fight Night 230 co-main event against Jennifer Maia (21-9-1 MMA, 6-5 UFC) with the mindset of a potential rematch with Grasso.

During Wednesday’s media day for UFC Fight Night 230, Araujo expressed her analysis of their previous match, stating, “It was the small details that cost me the fight over those five rounds, and since then she’s improved significantly. That’s why she’s risen through the ranks. I’m constantly evolving and paying close attention, studying all potential opponents. I’ll be prepared for whatever challenge comes my way.”

In addition to her preparations, Araujo revealed that she has been working with a sports psychologist to strengthen the mental aspects of her game.
